Important Notice for Dealers

June 16, 2010
As you are aware Alarm Companies, Alarm Monitoring Stations, and Alarm Users are regulated by UL Regulations, Fire Codes, Alarm Ordinances, and State or Local Laws.

AlarmWATCH will comply with all of the above regulations including the requirement for dealers and end user's to have a permit or registration # in order to request a police dispatch.

AlarmWATCH will NOT dispatch the police to any subscriber in non-compliance with local alarm ordinances or laws. AlarmWATCH MUST HAVE A COPY of the end users permit or registration # on file in order to request a police dispatch.

If the FARU notifies us of a subscriber's permit expiration, suspension, or non compliance we will change the subscriber's status to "non dispatchable".

AlarmWATCH can provide your company a list of subscribers that do not have a permit or registration number by contacting our Dealer Services Department at 866-500-8808 ext 157 or dealerservices@alarmwatchinc.com.

State and Local authorities are introducing or developing new alarms ordinances all the time. AlarmWATCH also recommends joining your state alarm association in order to keep current with new alarm ordinances.

If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact our Dealer Services Department at 866-500-8808 ext. 157.

Important Central Station Alarm Reporting Notification

August 19, 2009

We have recently reviewed our alarm code event mapping for Contact ID and SIA formats in order to ensure our database is in compliance with the industry standards.

We used the standards listed on the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) web site.  The CSAA is the recognized Central Station authority in our industry.

As an outcome of this review we have made the following changes to the event codes in order to align ourselves with the industry standards.

Montgomery County Maryland Subscribers & Dispatch Violations
September 12, 2008

Important changes have been enacted affecting all alarm companies and their subscribers located in or doing business in Montgomery County Maryland.

Effective October 1, 2008, Montgomery County will NO longer issue warning notification, but will, issue $500 civil citations for each and every request for dispatch that is made by an alarm company where the request for dispatch is not made in compliance with the alarm law and executive regulation.

In simple terms,
· the Alarm Company must obtain a Montgomery County Alarm Business License,
· All Monitored Alarm Subscribers must be registered with Montgomery County and their registration number must match what is on file with Montgomery County,
· AlarmWATCH must have the current Montgomery County Alarm Company Business License and Monitored Alarm Subscriber user registration number at the time of dispatch.

In a letter dated August 27, 2008 from Ms. Norma C. Beaubien, Director, FARU for Montgomery County, she discusses the details of these changes and where you may go to find out additional information. Access this letter now.

DEALER ACTION NEEDED
I strongly encourage each dealer to request a copy of the subscribers on file with the County, including permit numbers, and review the list against your records for accuracy. Once that step is completed, a similar list may be requested from AlarmWATCH to compare the information currently on record for your subscribers. The list from AlarmWATCH may be obtained from the Dealer Services Department by calling 866-500-8808 or Dealerservices@alarmwatchinc.com.

Dealer Notification: Inclement Weather Policy & Procedures

July 9, 2008

Storm season is rapidly approaching and AlarmWATCH would like to take a moment a remind all of our valued customers of our inclement weather policy.

DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER:

1. AlarmWATCH reserves the right to take no action on maintenance priorities (AC Loss, Low Batt, and Trouble Signals) in the event the central station is experiencing high volume activity due to inclement weather, rolling brown outs, or black outs.
2. If you have an account that requires notification on maintenance priorities (AC Loss, Low Batt and Trouble Signals) that will now not be notified on under this policy, please notify AlarmWATCH and the request will be evaluated for special handling.

Most residential and commercial alarm systems installed today have AC Power monitoring features included, as part of the system programming. Under standard central station protocol, when AC signals occur we call the subscriber and contact list (unless instructed otherwise) and fax to the dealer via their daily activity report. If AlarmWATCH is experiencing a heavy storm cycle, we can have 100-1000 or more AC's signals hit at once and then our protocol is to auto-log the signals, which allows us to handle higher priority and actual alarms in a timely manner. Typically, the AC power feature is programmed into the alarm panel as a non-essential feature, not crucial to the user's system needs or requirements. However, in certain requirements AlarmWATCH's responding to AC Power signals may be categorized as an actual alarm condition (such as commercial refrigeration, sump pumps, medical equipment, etc.).

When to Notify Central for Special Handling
If you have a subscriber that we are monitoring for AC Power, and there is a critical alarm situation involved, you MUST let us know. In that case, we can designate the handling so that the AC Alarm Code will fall under Priority 2 (comparable with holdup/medical). Also, when the central station experiences heavy storm situations, we can process that alarm signal so it will not be auto-logged with the standard AC Power failure alarms. We will attempt to reach everyone on the call list and, if unable to reach anyone, we will contact you or an authority (if warranted).

If you have any facilities that fall under this Priority 2 Critical AC Alarm status, please send in a data change to Data Entry for each account. You are required to specify the zone that is AC Alarm and the specific reason for this request. The AlarmWATCH Data Entry department will evaluate the request and, if deemed necessary, the zone will be set up as a Critical AC Loss and adjust the priority and contact list accordingly.

We now offer the option to be notified by email or text messaging, so please specify if you wish to use this service when you contact Dealer Services.

We also highly recommend that in the event of storm activity you review your Daily Activity Report thoroughly.

Thank you for doing your part to ensure that systems run smoothly, even in bad weather. If you have any questions, please contact Dealer Services Department at 1-866-500-8808, ext 157 or dealerservices@AlarmWATCHInc.com

Dealer Notification: Daily Dispatch Summary Report

July 1, 2008

In order to adhere to local ordinances, AlarmWATCH will now be providing your office with a Daily Dispatch Report beginning July 15th, 2008.

This report will detail all subscribers that required a police dispatch within the last 24 hours. Several alarm ordinances require a written notification of a police dispatch to the subscriber. This Daily Dispatch Report is intended to provide you with that information, as well as information on all of your subscribers' dispatches. Our new automated system will deliver this information in a single daily compiled report, more efficiently, quickly and accurately than our manual process.

Currently, you receive a manually faxed dispatch form for each incident. These will be replaced with a new Daily Dispatch Report. This report will be sent to your office automatically as a daily fax or email. We will use the current fax number or email address which is on file for you. If you would like to have this report sent to a particular email address, please contact Dealer Services.

AlarmWATCH strongly recommends that you contact subscribers after police dispatched to determine if service is needed in an effort to prevent false alarms. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

AlarmWATCH constantly reviews all procedures and policies in order to make the central station more efficient and these types of changes allow our operators to concentrate on the handling of property and life safety alarms. If you have any questions regarding this matter please do not hesitate to contact our Dealer Services Department at 1-866-500-8808, ext 157 or
dealerservices@AlarmWATCHInc.com.

VoIP and Security: What You Should Know

TRENDS - An AlarmWATCH Newsletter

VoIP is catching many dealers off-guard when subscribers change their telephone service to a VoIP carrier such as Vonage or Comcast Voice, without notifying their security company (more on VoIP problems). Subscribers, and in some cases dealers, are unaware that an add-on device must be installed to the existing alarm panel. Problems will soon be magnified, as phone companies are moving toward using VoIP in their switching stations, which will effect the communication of alarm panels, even when the subscriber is not using VoIP at their locations.

AIM is the solution to these problems. AIM provides a new mode of monitoring which receives signals over broad band connections.

AlarmWATCH now has AIM available on multiple receiver types including:

We also:

  • Support Both Honeywell products Alarmnet-I and Symphony.
  • Have encrypted communications available for jobs that require high security

All above named manufacturers offer modules that can be incorporated with any alarm panel using inputs. This means now even older alarm systems can be used with AIM. DSC is considered the ideal solution for this because it has connections for the most products

These devices require different IT receiver account numbers.

Contact AlarmWATCH's IT department to obtain the necessary account change information, by email or call the Central Station, 1-866-500-8808.

VoIP and Security: What You Should Know
